What is one of the most sociable and enjoyable things to talk about? FOOD of course!

These Super Users talk about how using the topic of food, either from their home country or travels, can be a great inspiration for language exchange.

This post is a part of our Super User series. In this collection of articles we talk to some of HelloTalk’s top followed users, explore what makes them stand out, and… what we can learn!

“My goal is to help people learn a language and connect with others around the world. Through language learning I have made amazing friends and I want to open that door for others.”

Berit spends her time on HelloTalk practicing language and making casual conversations with other people. “It feels natural for both people”, says Berit. “Don’t be afraid to reach out to people and just say ‘Hi!'”

Berit’s words of wisdom:

Taking initiative and posting something random, like food from your country, is a cool way to intrigue more people to connect with you.

Carl spends most of his time chatting with friends, posting, and reading other people’s Moments. Carl laughs “I post about food a lot! ? But, jokes aside, a reason people follow me is because I always post Moments in both English and Vietnamese. My followers can always learn something from my posts.”

Carl’s words of wisdom:

[bctt tweet=”To learn a language the most important thing is to develop consistent habits.” username=”HelloTalkApp”]

“I study languages and talk to my HelloTalk friends every day. I do a little bit of studying every single day too — no matter what. This has been key in helping me learn languages, especially Vietnamese! I think it is important to post Moments often. Make them relevant, helpful, and interesting to others, and interact with other users too.”

“My goal in using HelloTalk is to engage with people from different parts of the world and appreciate our similarities and differences.”

Ananya frequently posts cute and happy pictures on HelloTalk. She confesses that she is also a food lover. “I spend quite some time everyday drooling over the pictures of food everyone posts. I wish HelloTalk had a feature which would make it possible for us to actually taste the food by pressing a button!”

Ananya’s words of wisdom

Spread happiness. Just be proud of your progress and once in a while, share it with others! If learning a language makes you happy that’s all that matters.

We’ll definitely submit Ananya’s feature request to our product team! In the meantime why not share your favourite food? When the “press to taste” button is implemented we all have a wide menu to sample!
